Monday @ 7:30PM -- "Movie Beach"
Huell meets up with Harry Medved, author of "Hollywood Escapes" -- a book about popular movie locations in California. Harry tells Huell all about the long history of Leo Carrillo State Beach and why it's probably the most filmed beach in the world.
Legendary filmmaker Roger Corman then joins Huell to discuss some of the films he's shot at this location, including one of his earliest "Attack of the Crab Monsters."
Tuesday @ 7:30PM -- "Art City"
Huell visits a special gallery in Ventura, which provides sculptors with raw materials, a place to work, and a supportive place to show their art.
Watch a preview:
Wednesday @ 7:30PM -- "Sea Caves"
Huell spends the day paddling into Santa Cruz Island's famous sea caves.
Thursday @ 7:30PM -- "Railcars"
In this episode of "California's Gold," Huell salutes the railroads by "riding the rails." The catch is, he doesn't ride an actual train. First, Huell attends the annual U.S. National Handcar Races at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento and watches as teams race against the clock on a stretch of straight track. Riding on custom-made handcars similar to those used by early railroad workers, Huell also gets a look at and a demonstration of some of the original old handcars.
Next, he heads north to McCloud near Mount Shasta to attend a weekend outing sponsored by a group of people who restore the motorized "speeders" used by railroad workers for maintenance and track inspection. These "speeders," which come in all shapes and sizes, were the next generation of vehicles after the manually-operated handcars. The group travels by caravan at speeds up to 30 mph through some of the most beautiful countryside in our state.
Friday @ 7:30PM -- "Fosselman's"
Huell indulges in a summer treat at Fosselman's Ice Cream Co. in Alhambra, an 95-year-old family-owned business that still uses an original family recipe.
Saturday @ 5:00PM -- "Ferndale"
Step back in time with Huell for a "Road Trip" to Ferndale -- an entire town that holds the distinction of being California Historic Landmark #883.
Huell inspects beautiful Victorian architecture, gets some refreshments at the westernmost bar in the continental U.S., visits a historic pharmacy, and stops by a Gingerbread Mansion.
After the "Road Trip" is over, stay tuned for a bonus visit to Clendenen's Cider Works in Fortuna -- home to some of the best fresh squeezed apple cider in the state.
