River as a grand civic space that can green and connect our communities.

Hello, Rio Hondo! Ride thru an emerald necklace of parks to mile 11 or 17, and jump on the 28-mile San Gabriel River bikeway @ Whittier Narrows!

Located near South Gate and Lynwood, this is the junction where the L.A. River and the Rio Hondo meet. Whether coming down south from Whittier Narrow and the San Gabriel Valley on the Rio Hondo bike path, or from downtown L.A. on the L.A. River bike path, from this point on you will have a straight line towards Long Beach. The site immediately to the east of the confluence was acquired by the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy in 2008, with plans to build an 8-acre park with stormwater capture and treatment through vegetated bioswales, along with benches, a walking trail, and a rest stop for bicyclists riding down the bike path, which will be the only access point for the park. As of 2015, plans for the park is still sadly "In Progress," according to the L.A. County Department of Public Works.
