The Caregiving Husband

Being a caregiver is definitely a role that 65-year-old John Whitmarsh never imagined he'd be undertaking. Last year, his 61-year-old wife Barbara was diagnosed with frontotemporal degeneration--a form of dementia that's often difficult to diagnose and often confused with Alzheimer's. The brain disease has devastated the whole family as they witness Barbara's slow, steady disintegration. John now devotes his days to caring for her and the hardest part is not knowing when it will end. The life expectancy after diagnosis is anywhere from 2-8 years. But for some it can be longer. John would like to bring in part-time help but his wife is not comfortable with strangers in the house so he struggles to "do it all."
