After Hiking 1,600 Miles in 5 Months, 'Condor' Finishes PCT Journey
Kolby Kirk is a true SoCal Wanderer. A few years ago he began an inspiring blog to document the 100 hikes he set out to do in one year's time to improve his health. He accomplished that goal and since then a lot more, including taking advantage of losing his job by hitting the West Coast's premiere national trail earlier this year.
Thursday night, after hiking 1,609.1 miles from the Mexico border through nearly all of California, "Condor" -- that's his trail name -- announced the end of his 159-day trip, in which he lost a healthy 100 pounds.
"Well, my friends," he wrote on Facebook, "I have found my northern terminus. After hiking for hours through 18 inches of snow in the Trinity Alps Wilderness, I came to the realization that I have found my limits."
The Pacific Crest Trail runs 2,650 miles between the Mexico and Canada borders. While Kirk did not finish, he and many others will tell you that it's not about finishing, but the journey, which we are fortunate enough to experience through several videos shared online (above is one of my favorites with the rest available for viewing here.
Congrats, Condor! You're an inspiration to us all!
