Fast Fault Movement Could Cause Quakes | Mar. 24

On the March 24 episode of “SoCal Update,” we understand why scientists are taking note of a series of seemingly small movements in the San Andreas Fault, which could spell trouble for infrastructure. KPCC Science Reporter Jacob Margolis tells us more.

It’s happening at a portion of the San Andreas Fault called the Mission Creek strand, which researchers found is moving faster than we thought. And the faster it moves, the more stress that builds up in the Earth’s crust over a short period of time.
