Our investigation into malfeasance at the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angles found chief Rudy Montiel was taking in nearly $450,000 in compensation. That included his base salary of about $260,000, a housing subsidy and more than 2 months of paid vacation.

Exorbitant salaries and the abuse of public money at housing authorities across the nation have raised the ire of U.S. Senator Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who sent a series of scathing letters to Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.

After learning of our investigation, Sen. Grassley launched an inquiry of his own. Watch the full story here and read Grassley's letter regarding HACLA here.

Below, see how Montiel's base salary stacked up against other housing authority executives across the country.
