Service Dogs Help Veterans Cope With PTSD
Lyndon Villone was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after serving in the Marines from 2005 to 2009.
During his service, Lyndon lost many of his colleagues in combat. His health evaluation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs eventually led him to Ice, a service K-9 husky who has been by his side during his road to recovery.
"He's my son, he's my brother, Ice is my best friend," said Lyndon, who prefers to describe his post-traumatic stress disorder as "post-traumatic growth."
Today, Lyndon is completing his training to become a service dog trainer. He currently lives in San Antonio where he plays a role in helping veterans cope with post-traumatic stress disorder through the Heel the Heroes organization. In this segment, producer Jae Shim reveals the deep connection that develops between Marine veteran Lyndon and his dog, Ice. Viewers see how service dogs help manage the symptoms of PTSD.
