Lawns Get a Coat of Paint Amid Drought
With a lingering drought in California and no sign of rain on the horizon, many homeowners are turning to inexpensive alternatives to transform patches of brown into lush green lawns.
For the Lawn Paint Pros, the drought has contributed to an increase in its lawn painting business. The company says that lawns are sprayed with their own collection of non-toxic vegetable-based turf dyes that can last up to three months.
Repainting an average front lawn can be cheaper than covering the lawn with artificial turf, which could cost upwards of thousands of dollars, according to the Lawn Paint Pros.
The lawn painting technique has been popularly used in large football fields, stadiums, and golf courses, which are expected to maintain green lawns. The technique has also been lauded by real estate agents hoping to sell neglected homes with alluring green lawns.
Studies show that nearly 60 percent of a homeowner's water bill goes to the upkeep and maintenance of the watering landscape in Southern California, as Jennifer Sabih revealed in an earlier segment of "SoCal Connected."
