Reporter Roundup: Racism in the Antelope Valley
On the June 30 edition of the Reporter Roundup, KPCC reporters discuss racism in the Antelope Valley, Carl Reiner’s passing and the law enforcement’s response to homeless calls.
KPCC’s Matt Tinoco reports law enforcement – not social workers- are typically the first responders to calls of an unhoused person in distress. Citing a high use of force rate, some advocates are asking police be replaced with someone else during non-violent calls, especially those involving homeless residents .
Robert Fuller, who was found earlier this month hanging from a tree near Palmdale’s City Hall, was buried today. KPCC’s Emily Elena Dugdale reports on the Antelope Valley’s long history of racism.
KPCC’s John Horn looks back at the legacy of Carl Reiner who passed away today at 98 of natural causes.
