For many in El Salvador, brutal gangs control existence
Extraordinary violence is among the factors pushing Central Americans north toward the U.S. In El Salvador, rival gangs like MS-13 and the 18th Street Gang kill thousands per year, despite a harsh crackdown by law enforcement.
