Summer Evening with Marshmallow Roasting on the L.A. River
It was a perfect evening to spend some time on the L.A. River. The sun was low in the sky and the cool breeze had broken through the heat of the day. People were beginning to venture out into the evening bliss to walk their dog, take a stroll with a loved one, ride their bike, or picnic on the banks of the River. For those eager for a sweet adventure there was a treat awaiting them at Marsh Park in Elysian Valley -- marshmallows on an open flame. Delicious!
The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) is hosting a series of summer events at Marsh Park in preparation and celebration of its upcoming expansion. The second of four campfires occurred yesterday, and included games, songs, and of course marshmallow roasting. Collin O'Mara-Green, coordinator of education programs with the MRCA, facilitated the event by providing the activities as well as a demonstration on how to safely enjoy roasted marshmallows. The event was a big hit with the kids and families who took part and those lucky enough to ride or walk by and catch the aroma of the sweet and smokey treats.
