Play the L.A. River is a come-one-come-all project by the arts collective Project 51 -- a collective of L.A. River-loving artists, designers, planners, writers, educators -- that invites Angelenos to explore, enjoy, reclaim, and reimagine the mighty L.A. River as a grand civic space that can green and connect our communities.

What can you see under this 1927 bridge? A few shorebirds, art, a future water wheel, and a whole lotta dreams in the City's L.A. River master plan.

Located near the northern tip of Los Angeles State Historic Park, the historic bridge may seem like just another way to cross the river to get from Chinatown to Lincoln Heights. But underneath the bridge is a hidden world all of its own, where innovative ideas are exchanged and created. Under Spring -- as it's known and depicted in a recent book -- is home to Metabolic Studios, where artist Lauren Bon and her team has created projects such as "Not a Cornfield" and the forthcoming LA Noria waterwheel.

With so much history, as well as a look toward the future, this location is ideal for the nostalgic dreamer in all of us.
