Huarache Azteca Restaurante
5225 York Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90042
I love El Huarache, really great food, completely unexpected and hard to find. Go for (obviously) the Huaraches, a cross between a pizza and an empanada, with really wonderful taste and texture. You have to look hard when you drive by--it is literally a hole in the wall. You have to fend for yourself at the front, ordering and filling up salsas usually with no place to sit because it is packed--I haven't eaten there, I always get the food to go. But it is so good. And crazy cheap.Figueroa Produce Market
6312 North Figueroa Street
This is a great, non-chain, old-fashioned grocery with the modern twist of organic and local produce. Distribution point for farm subscription boxes from the South Central Farmers (now in outside of Bakersfield, but still.) Really a neat little place, and an antidote to the big chain supermarkets.
