Despite the sections of the river that are completely filled with concrete, flocks of Black Neck Stilts head down to the "wetlands" of the Los Angeles River in the spring. They take to wintering grounds in the San Joaquin Valley at the end of the summer, but at the right time of year you can find them feasting on the algae clumped on the concrete in Downtown L.A.
