California Matters with Mark Bittman
The Roots of Organic Farming on Campus
When UC Santa Cruz first established the Alan Chadwick Garden in 1967, it was just a small plot of land for students and staff to experiment with biodynamic agricultural practices. Since then, it has grown to three acres plus 30-acres of the UC Santa Cruz Farm, and is the oldest organic farm on any college campus in the United States. Its reach goes beyond the school and is open to anyone interested in organic farming.
Follow along Mark's tour of the land as he talks with staff and educators about the self-sustaining farm and how its pioneering efforts are benefiting the entire community.
