About
Representatives of gospel music's legacy and future will take part in a special virtual screening premiere and Q&A session of “The Black Church: This is Our Story, This is Our Song”, An intimate four-hour series from Henry Louis Gates, Jr., The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song will explore the 400-year-old story of the black church in America, the changing nature of worship spaces, and the men and women who shepherded them from the pulpit, the choir loft, and church pews.
The event will be hosted by Dr. Daniel E. Walker (author of the critically acclaimed book No More, No More Slavery and Cultural Resistance in Havana and New Orleans and the Founding Director of the Gospel Music History Project and the Gospel Music History Archive at the USC Libraries) and will feature panelists Dr. Margaret Pleasant Douroux (Founder and CEO of the Heritage Music Foundation), Onikhol Wells-Howard (Touring Artist), I’ZAYA (Singer, Songwriter, and Performer) and Donald Webber (Minister of Music).
The virtual screening event at 6pm PST. The feature-length documentary, “The Black Church: This is Our Story, This is Our Song” will premiere in Southern California on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 9 p.m. PT and Part Two on Wednesday, Feb. 17 on PBS SoCal
Registrants are encouraged to submit a video of their rendition of "Blessed Assurance", to potentially be screened at a future event.
