The 64th annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration returns live to The Music Center to honor the rich cultural tapestry of the county through the lenses of 23 talented artists and groups. From the lively and energetic beats of Little Tokyo's TAIKOPROJECT and Compton's Divas and Drummers of Compton to the elegant tunes of two-time GRAMMY Award-winning mariachi group Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, this year's performers collectively embody the lively spirit and diverse essence of Los Angeles.

The 64th annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration can be enjoyed live, for free, at The Music Center on Dec. 24, 2023 or watched on air or streamed on the PBS App and PBSSoCal.org.

Carnegie Gospel Choir

Carnegie Gospel Choir is composed of members from The Spirit Chorale of Los Angeles, The Collegiate Choir of Los Angeles Harbor College, The Adult Choir of Grant AME Church of Los Angeles, The Voices in Praise of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Los Angeles, the LBCC Gospel Choir and the Delta Choraliers of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. These choirs are currently directed or associated with conductor Professor Byron J. Smith, and after a very uplifting and exciting experience debuting at Carnegie Hall in New York, the ensemble is looking forward to sharing the experience with a Los Angeles audience.

Christian Fellowship Chorale

Christian Fellowship

Christian Fellowship Chorale is a non-denominational gospel choir that was formed over 14 years ago by group leader Tim Williams with several singers and musicians he met during his many years of music leadership at multiple churches in Los Angeles.

Today, Christian Fellowship Chorale is an ethnically and religiously diverse choir of performers who are Methodist, Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, Mormon, Presbyterian and more who are also dedicated to musical excellence and coming together to perform arrangements of popular, contemporary and traditional gospel music.

In addition to performing in churches all over the greater Los Angeles area, Christian Fellowship Chorale has performed together with the Inner-City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and with former LA Philharmonic conductor Zubin Mehta at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Divas and Drummers of Compton

Divas and Drummers of Compton is a dance and drumline program for inner city youth that provides weekly performing arts and music education training. As a result of their hard work, dedication and leadership, Divas and Drummers of Compton were blessed with an opportunity to perform for the NFL Super Bowl 2022 Pre-Game Show at SoFi Stadium as well as during an NBA Los Angeles Lakers Halftime show and a WNBA Sparks Game. A highlight of the Divas and Drummers of Compton was becoming a Quarterfinalists on NBC America’s Got Talent. Their goal is to spread love and positivity by exuding confidence through our talents while entertaining and inspiring the community.

Divas and Drummers of Compton are a part of the 1 Shine Youth Center, a nonprofit youth center which provides programming for inner city youth.

Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles

Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA), under the leadership of Executive Director & Producer Lou Spisto and Music Director & Conductor Ernest H. Harrison, returns for its 45th year in 2023-2024. GMCLA continues to garner acclaim for artistic excellence while remaining deeply rooted in service to the Los Angeles community and beyond by promoting civil rights, tolerance and acceptance through music. Founded in 1979 during the emergence of the gay rights movement, GMCLA spreads its message of love and acceptance with concerts across the globe and has raised its collective voice in the movement toward equality, social justice, the fight against the AIDS crisis, the fight for marriage equality and all those seeking to find their own voice. GMCLA’s free community concert program has provided access to concerts to tens of thousands over the decades, and its research-based education programs have served over 85,000 young people throughout the Los Angeles region.

Gay Men’s Chorus of L.A.: Raising Voices of Joy

In June 2023, GMCLA returned to Walt Disney Concert Hall to perform the extraordinary multi-media Disney PRIDE in Concert to two sold-out houses as the finale of Season 44, which also included I'm With Her, a celebration of boundary breaking women in music, as well as the beloved and sold-out holiday production, "A Motown Holiday." In recent years, GMCLA has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl (with Hugh Jackman). Reaching global audiences, a GMCLA appearance at the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards has gained more than 7 million online views. During the pandemic, GMCLA presented virtual concerts, special events and school programs, reaching thousands of new and longtime fans. From Los Angeles and Ireland to Brazil and New Zealand, GMCLA’s streaming concerts were incredibly well received. Critics have proclaimed the chorus "inspired" and "expressive, innovative and utterly moving," and hailed GMCLA for presenting "meaningful entertainment."

Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute

Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute aims to preserve the Korean heritage by teaching traditional Korean music and dance. Director Hiza Yoo studied Korean traditional dances with nationally renowned Korean dance instructors Mrs. Baeck Bong Kim and Mrs. Soon Sung Kim as well as with intangible human cultural assets such as Mrs. Sun Young Kang and Mr. Mae Bang Lee. Additionally, they created innovative and modern movements and styles to appeal to a diverse contemporary audience. Since coming to the United States in 1972, Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute has performed more than 350 times and has received more than 40 certificates of appreciation from various organizations including the Obama President Volunteer Service Award, L.A. City Councilman Mitchell Englander, LACMA, Pacific Asia Museum, Korean Cultural Center, L.A. Zoo, Disneyland, Kennedy Center, Libraries, Korean Festival, Adult Care Center, Northridge Festival, Veteran’s Hospital, Cal State University Northridge and UC San Diego.

JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble

Hailed as "a Los Angeles treasure" by LA Dance Chronicle, JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble was founded in 1993 by choreographer Pat Taylor to celebrate the jazz tradition as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of African American history and heritage. Through collaborative performance projects, educational programming and community-based hands-on experiences, JazzAntiqua shares the art of jazz with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

JazzAntiqua has performed nationally and internationally at many prestigious venues, festivals and performing stages such as Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, the Hollywood Bowl, Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California African American Museum, CIEI Theatre in Brazil, Southern Theater in Minneapolis, Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco, Ford Amphitheater, Barclay Theater/University of California, Irvine, The Jazz Bakery and Watts Towers Jazz Festival. The Company is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Dance USA, Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, California Arts Council, California Humanities and Black Art Futures Fund.

Dedicated to jazz arts education, preservation and creation, JazzAntiqua embraces "the movement in the music" — the physical embodiment of the jazz aesthetic and the lineage, language and continuum embedded therein; the social nuances across time; and ultimately the joy, self-determination, community and freedom at the heart of this extraordinary, life-affirming expression that embodies the foundational music traditions in the African American community including Spirituals, Gospel, Blues and Jazz.

Jessica Fichot

Accompanied by her accordion, toy piano and fiery band, Los Angeles-based chanteuse and songwriter Jessica Fichot draws from her multi-ethnic French, Chinese and American heritage to create an intoxicating, multilingual fusion of French chanson, Shanghai Jazz, gypsy swing and folk.

Jessica, a Berklee College of Music alumnus, was born in the U.S., but grew up in a suburb of Paris. After relocating to Los Angeles, she was inspired by the diversity of the city to write French "chansons" in the language of her youth, with touches of English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, her mother’s native language.

With three acclaimed albums under her belt, Jessica has charmed audiences in China, Mexico, Canada and across the U.S. and Western Europe. Featuring scorching performances from her bandmates
on clarinet/sax, upright bass and guitar, as well as her own beautiful, clear vocals in French, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and English. Fichot’s music is truly a dazzling trans-world journey.

Fichot is also an active composer, who has written hundreds of children's songs for educational programs, as well as interactive music for many independent video games. Her multilingual vocals and some of her original songs have also been featured in movies, TV shows and commercials.

Gabrielito y La Verdad

La Verdad

La Verdad is the premier West Coast Latin music ensemble. True to its name, La Verdad is a collective of world class musicians embodying the truth of the Los Angeles Latino experience. Collectively led by award winning singer, songwriter Gabriel Gonzalez (Quetzal, Boogaloo Assassins) They boast a traditional and original repertoire that spans the scope of Latin American route music including salsa, cha, boogaloo, funk, cumbia, Latin soul and more.

M Dance Collective

M Dance Collective’s mission is to introduce and share Chinese dance while bringing communities together by bridging eastern and western dance art forms. Since its inception in 2021, M Dance Collective has welcomed and nurtured dancers of different ages and backgrounds in Los Angeles.

M Dance Collective dedicates itself to instilling a great love of dance and culture, while inspiring self- confidence, discipline and respect of the performing arts in the next generation of dancers. Dancers at M Dance Collective are exposed to and taught a foundational variety of different traditional Chinese Folk dance styles, such as Mongolian, Dai, Han, and many more. They also receive Classical Chinese dance training, which is drawn from various disciplines including acrobatics, gymnastics, martial arts, and ballet, providing the foundation from which they can branch off into different styles and specialties. Within each style, many dancers become fond of the cultural and historically accurate costumes and beautiful props that are used throughout various Chinese dance styles.

M Dance

In addition to community performances, M Dance Collective has won numerous awards, including but not limited to, the 2021 KAR National Studio of the Year Award, 2022 & 2023 KAR National Champion, 2023 KAR National Grand Champion, 2022 & 2023 Showstopper National Champions, and 2023 Revolution Talent National Champion & Battle of the Champions Winners.

Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea

With a career spanning 24 years, the critically acclaimed Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea is a two-time GRAMMY Award winning, eight-time GRAMMY Award-nominated and three-time Latin GRAMMY Award-nominated all-female mariachi band. Founded in 1999 by musical director and trumpet player Cindy Shea, Mariachi Divas is celebrated for its innovative and eclectic array of music ranging from mariachi classics to jazz and pop.

Mariachi Divas is known for its sophisticated, smooth, refined and elegant musical style. With an established recording track record, their discography includes nineteen professional full-length album releases through East Side Records and produced by Cindy Shea. Since 2003, Mariachi Divas has been the official all-female mariachi of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, performing year-round at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA. The group is also the official mariachi for Disney Pixar’s "Coco"-inspired annual show at Plaza de La Familia/Día de Los Muertos celebration at Disney California Adventure.

The Divas are currently working on their 20th album which will be their second holiday music album scheduled to be released this year. The L.A. County Holiday Celebration has become a part of the Mariachi Divas holiday tradition as bringing joy to others through their music is what the holidays are all about.

Mostly Kosher

Mostly Kosher | Gennia Cui

Mostly Kosher, Klezmer-Rock band boldly redefines their musical genre taking the listener through a timeline of history with modern protest music, toppling norms of intolerance and indifference. The ensemble is led by frontman Leeav Sofer accompanied by founding members Janice Mautner Markham on violin, Adam Levy on bass and special guest artists!

Mostly Kosher is a fixture at renowned California stages such as the Ford Amphitheatre, Skirball Cultural Center, Torrance Center for the Arts, Chandler and Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center and as the first Jewish music ensemble residency at the Disney parks. Mostly Kosher is proud to be teaching artists for Urban Voices Project, performing and educating in underserved areas in and around Southern California including prisons, community clinics and shelters. Mostly Kosher is also a mentor ensemble to the Los Angeles Jewish Youth Orchestra for middle school and high school musicians. Mostly Kosher kicked off their 2022/2023 live performance schedule with a long-anticipated record release of "This World is Yours."

The Jewish Youth Orchestra is a community-based ensemble of high school and university aged musicians dedicated to the study and performance of Jewish music, liturgical and secular, as well as music influenced and connected to Jewish culture. The mission of the Jewish Youth Orchestra is to offer a unique experience for young musicians, building a Jewish cultural education, which draws from numerous music styles from different time periods and regions throughout the world. The Jewish Youth Orchestra encourages communication and collaboration as students grow as musicians and individuals with a goal to create 3/36 music that excites the imagination and performance that inspires the next generation of artists and audiences.

MUSYCA Children’s Choir

MUSYCA Children's Choir is a performance-based music education program for children and youth in Los Angeles. MUSYCA singers serve the community through performances, outreach events, recordings and appearances in TV and film productions. Committed to championing new musical works, MUSYCA collaborates with leading composers, artists and producers, collaborating with artists such as Dr. Dre, Portugal The Man, Camila Cabello, Slick Naim, Ella Mai and DJ Mustard, and worked with composers Joe Hisaishi, Michael Giacchino and Arthur B. Rubinstein.

MUSYCA’s collaborative recordings have been nominated for the Grammy Awards in the Best R&B Album and Album of the Year categories. The choir is the featured artist on the "Build-A-Bear Workshop Jams" album, released by Warner Music Group. MUSYCA's televised performances on Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show, ABC's "The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration," ABC’s "Disneyland Christmas Day Parade" and NBC's "The Voice" have been seen by millions of people worldwide.

MUSYCA is featured on the soundtracks of the motion pictures "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" and "Boy Erased." MUSYCA Children's Choir supports charitable causes with performances benefiting ACLU, UNICEF, Operation Smile, and Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children's Foundation. MUSYCA is a nonprofit organization supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles Department of Arts and Culture, the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and the California Arts Council.

Palmdale High School Chamber Singers and Sunday Night Singers

The Palmdale High School Chamber singers are a select a cappella choir ensemble and have performed nationally and internationally in festivals and competitions. The Chamber Singers are joined by the Sunday Night Singers, a select nonprofit chamber choir with members from all over L.A. County. Many of the Sunday Night Singers started as high school singers at Palmdale High School. The Sunday Night Singers have recorded 3 albums and also have an outstanding national and international presence. Combined, these two ensembles have performed at 14 L.A. County Holiday Celebration broadcasts.

Palmdale High School Choral Union

The Sunday Night Singers began in 2005 when director Mike McCullough was asked to provide singers for a birthday party. He reached out to a few of his previous students to participate and the small group was a success. Their name came naturally as they rehearsed on Sunday nights. The Sunday Night Singers have competed in the Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales and at the World Choir Games in Cincinnati and Riga, Latvia. They have placed in multiple competitions and won the mixed chamber choir category at the 2012 World Choir Games.

Pasadena Girls' Choir

Founded in 2017 by its director, Barbara Allen, the Pasadena Girls' choir was created to cultivate vocal musicianship and grow and develop the vocal abilities of young girls in a positive and uplifting environment. Pasadena Girls' choir endeavors to build self-esteem, develop poise and performance skills and grow confidence within a framework of choral participation.

RAISE

The RAISE singers are L.A.'s own soul-gospel-R&B choir, representing the vibrancy and cultural diversity of this great city. The artists of RAISE have become a family of singers, working closely together now for almost 10 years. The singers are all emerging R&B artists, singers and songwriters, session vocalists with background in church and tours and musicals — and come together on each project bringing something individually to make up a unique, edgy and exciting gospel-R&B-soul choir experience.

RAISE began in 2014 as a collection of soul music artists getting together singing Gospel and R&B tunes on private bookings. In 2014, RAISE opened for the ADL Awards honoring Mark Burnett and Roma Downey and in 2016, performed at Disney's California Adventure Park for their "Festival of Holidays" as the first all-Black live singing group. In 2020, RAISE performed with Daybreaker on the Oprah Tour and is currently the choir and soloists in "Defining Courage" with ABC7's David Ono (Segerstrom, Kennedy Center, Hawaii Theater). RAISE is grateful to share their music and spirit and spread Joy to all and is honored to be a part of the L.A. County Holiday Celebration legacy!

South Side Symphony

Composer Marcus Norris founded South Side Symphony with the idea "What if orchestras didn’t exist, and were invented today by a young Black man?" He describes the sound as "like a younger, more 'ratchet' version of The Roots, accompanied by lush live strings and horns." The mostly-Black orchestra has performed with Chloe x Halle and Andra Day, played on several film scores including NBC Universal's "Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul" and most recently recorded their first live album through a weekend of three sold-out shows in North Hollywood. After hearing South Side Symphony perform under Marcus’s Musical Direction at the 2022 Wearable Art Gala, Beyoncé asked Marcus to orchestrate several songs for her and the 50-piece orchestra as part of her surprise 2023 Dubai return to live performance. The orchestra’s motto is "Our Music in Our Time," because we know nobody can tell our stories like we can.

TAIKOPROJECT + Blue13 Dance Company

TAIKOPROJECT is a professional taiko drumming ensemble based in the historic Little Tokyo district of downtown Los Angeles. The ensemble has been touring nationally since 2003 and is an award-winning nonprofit organization that also maintains a school for youth and adults with over 100 students.

Los Angeles-based Blue13 Dance Company has been performing theatrical modern dance for over 20 years. Inspired by classical and cultural art forms of the Indian subcontinent, the company's mission is to create a shift in the perception and practice of American dance through performance, community activations and education.

Blue13 offers accessible educational programming in Title-1 schools and is committed to increasing cultural knowledge and amplifying representation, equity and diversity in the dance field.

Técnica Arte y Folklore

Técnica Arte y Folklore is dedicated to sharing Mexican folklore dance through performance, workshops and seminars. Técnica Arte y Folklore instills a sense of ownership and respect amongst its students for Mexican folklore dance starting from traditional Contemporary techniques such as Horton, Graham, Limon to later works of zapateado technique. Técnica Arte y Folklore seeks not only to train dancers in terms of the amount of repertoire, but also to generate curiosity, imagination, dialogue, analytical discourse, social-cultural environment and awareness of their body as a means of communication.

The Citrus Singers

The Citrus Singers, from Citrus College, located in Glendora, CA, was established in 1968 and quickly rose to international acclaim. This elite group has won numerous choral competitions, including the prestigious International Choral Festival in Spittal, Austria. Performances include the Glinka Capella in St. Petersburg Russia, the Vienna Symposium for outstanding international choirs, the Riebeld Festival in Denmark, the Midnight Sun Choral Festival in Tromso, Norway, and the Republic of China’s international choral festival. Additionally, they have performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, opened the Rose Parade, and appeared annually on the L.A. County Holiday Celebration. The Citrus Singers has entertained Presidents, Foreign Dignitaries and represented the United States throughout much of the world, presenting classical concert tours in France, Italy, Austria, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Japan, Spain, China, Denmark, Norway, Germany, South America, Great Britain and most recently Romania.

Torrance Civic Chorale

Since its humble beginnings in 1961, the Torrance Civic Chorale currently has a roster of 50 singers and is proud of its close ties to the Torrance and South Bay community. In the last year, the Chorale has collaborated and performed with the El Camino College Choir, the South Bay Children’s Choir, the Torrance Theatre Company and the North High School Choir. Members come from the surrounding South Bay communities and encompass all age groups from young adults to people with over 50 years of vocal music experience. The Chorale represents professions in aerospace, banking and investments, education, parenting, military, medical, governmental social services, professional antique dealers, students, retirees and church employees. The choristers' diversities span Japan, China, Chile, England, the Philippines, Spain, Korea, Scandinavia, France, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Greece, Scotland, the Middle East and Central America.

The Chorale is sponsored by the Cultural Services Division in the Community Services Department of the City of Torrance, directed by Dr. Edward Trimis and supported by its longtime collaborative pianist, Diana Brownson. The group's musical repertoire varies widely from the classics to ancient ballads, pop tunes and Broadway musicals to newly composed masterworks.

Treble on Grand

Treble on Grand is one of the premier vocal ensembles at Ramón C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, otherwise known as "Grand Arts." The school is a dual-mission public high school in downtown Los Angeles dedicated to providing aspiring artists and scholars with an academically rigorous pre-college curriculum and a comprehensive, four-year pre-conservatory arts program. Students at Grand Arts are able to grow as performers and musicians no matter their musical background. Founded in 2018, Treble on Grand is part of the award-winning choir program directed by Drew Lewis and perform a mix of a cappella/accompanied jazz and pop music in the greater Los Angeles community and throughout California.

VOX Femina Los Angeles

VOX Femina Los Angeles gives women voice through the performance of quality choral literature. Diverse in culture, age, race, belief and sexual identity, Vox Femina Los Angeles is a chorus committed to commissioning new works and raising awareness about issues that affect women. Through music, VOX aims to create a world that affirms the worth and dignity of every person.

Founded in 1997 by nationally recognized choral conductor Dr. Iris S. Levine, VOX Femina has made over 400 appearances throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The women of VOX sing culturally diverse repertoire from the Renaissance to contemporary, in a wide range of styles and languages. Throughout its 27 years, VOX has remained committed to commissioning new works for women's voices, collaborating with 40 composers on over 50 commissions since its founding.

VOX has collaborated with the Colburn Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the Valley Performing Arts Center; the LA Philharmonic and the LA Master Chorale in "Mahler's Eighth Symphony" at the Shrine Auditorium; and with the LA Philharmonic in a Disney Hall performance of Gustav Holst's "The Planets," conducted by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel. VOX will make its Carnegie Hall debut with National Concerts in June of 2024.

XoroTroptzi is an all-ages performing ensemble founded in 2012 through the Bulgarian American Cultural Educational Foundation in Los Angeles. They evolved from simple social gatherings between friends to learn traditional dances and grew into the only Bulgarian folk ensemble in Los Angeles. With a mission to preserve and popularize the rich cultural traditions of Bulgarian folk dances, the ensemble is comprised of immigrants and Bulgarian-Americans who acknowledge the strong role of dance and music in their identities. With ethnographic research and traditional costumes guiding their repertoire development, the ensemble performs throughout the country at festivals for the Bulgarian community as well as at other heritage festivals in the USA and Canada for the public.
