PBS SoCal Nominated for 27 National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards Presented by the Los Angeles Press Club

Los Angles, Calif. – October 31, 2024 – PBS SoCal, Southern California’s flagship PBS organization, announced today 27 nominations for the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards presented by the Los Angeles Press Club. The nominations were spread across 18 different categories and honored locally produced series/productions from PBS SoCal. Winners will be announced in all categories presented during a ceremony in downtown Los Angeles at the Millennium Biltmore on Sunday, December 1. PBS SoCal Original arts and culture series ARTBOUND received the most recognition with 13 of the 27 nominations. Three of the nominations highlighted the documentary “Chinatown Punk Wars,” exploring two Chinatown restaurants that became the implausible heart of L.A.’s burgeoning punk scene in the 1970s. Three nominations went to “Angel City Press: LA Through the Pages” which examined the impact of the publisher of distinctly high-quality nonfiction books about Southern California.

PBS SoCal’s stand-up comedy documentary series ROOTS OF COMEDY WITH JESUS TREJO received four nominations including one for host Jesus Trejo, who is up against OUTSIDE THE LYRICS (which secured three nominations) host Taj Frazier in the category of “Anchor/Host.”

Two additional nominations went to ART HAPPENS HERE WITH JOHN LITHGOW in the “Animation/Moving Graphic” and “Personality Profile, Film Personalities” categories.
