Fun-Filled “Lift off to Learning” Day of Space Exploration Celebrates 50th Moon Landing Anniversary
Burbank, Calif. – May 29, 2019 – PBS SoCal, Southern California’s home for PBS, announced today that it will host its 5th Annual Summer Learning Day Sat., June 22 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Downey’s Columbia Memorial Space Center. This year’s space-themed “Lift Off to Learning” event is inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and will celebrate the PBS KIDS series READY JET GO! The event will include partner booths, educational activities, free learning resources, face painting, photo booths, information on summer programs, and photo opportunities with PBS KIDS characters that include Jet from READY JET GO! and Luna from LET’S GO LUNA!. Attendees will also have access to the Columbia Memorial Space Museum exhibit, which features a robotics lab, a mission control center, interactive exhibits and more.
PBS SoCal’s annual Summer Learning Day helps children avoid the summer learning slump by sharing the love of learning through free activities, entertainment, music and more during a fun-filled day in the community.
The day will also include a screening of READY JET GO!: ONE SMALL STEP which premieres on PBS SoCal on Mon., June 17 at 7 a.m. In the new hour-long special, Jet and his friends learn all about Neil Armstrong and the Apollo Space Program as they embark on a sleepover on the Moon. This special will re-air the weekend of July 20 as part of a special PBS KIDS Family Night event marking the anniversary of the moon landing. The special will air on PBS SoCal 1 (ch 50.1), PBS SoCal KIDS (ch 50.5) and stream on the free PBS KIDS Video app and pbssocal.or.org/kids. Fans of the show will also be delighted to know that READY JET GO! has a new bilingual Space Explorer app where kids can explore the solar system and visit planets, stars and constellations with Jet and his friends.
As part of the PBS SUMMER OF SPACE, PBS KIDS will roll out new space-themed content beginning in June, including educational resources for families and educators to use all summer long.
