LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 13, 2016) – PBS SoCal hosted the awards ceremony for the California Student Media Festival, now in its 50th year, on Saturday, June 11 at Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. The festival is the nation's oldest student media festival and exists to celebrate the innovative and exceptional multimedia projects produced by California's brightest students. This year, more than 285 entries from across the state were received. Over the past twenty years, the California Student Media Festival has awarded more than $140,000 to California schools.

The awards ceremonies brought in over 400 students, parents and teachers. Winners were honored at the event and awarded with prizes and cash for the students' schools. The event also included presentations of winning projects and acceptance speeches.

Schools submitted entries in categories such as Foreign Language, History and Social Science, Language Arts, Fine and Performing Arts, Mathematics, Special Education, Science and Health, Technical Arts and Journalism. The types of projects accepted by the festival include Live Action, "Sequential Stills," Animation, Interactive Stills, Website, and Interactive Multimedia Projects. Grand Prize winning schools were chosen to receive a cash grant for the best overall entry in their respective divisions.

The festival was made possible by a partnership between PBS SoCal and CUE. For a complete list of winners and videos, please visit mediafestival.org.
