Local Public Media Television Stations KCET and PBS SoCal Lead All Other L.A. Broadcasters With a Combined Seven Los Angeles Area Emmy® Wins

Los Angeles, Calif. – July 25, 2022 ­­– PBS SoCal and KCET, Southern California’s flagship PBS stations, announced today that they received a combined total of seven wins for the 74th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards presented on Saturday, July 23 by the Television Academy. The total tally led all other local stations (or duopolies) for the greatest number of wins. The wins were spread across seven different categories and honored locally produced productions from KCET and PBS SoCal. For the sixth year running, KCET and PBS SoCal combined garnered the most awards of any other LA broadcast station.

The locally produced original arts and culture series ARTBOUND received the most wins with three in total, highlighting a variety of season 12 episodes that include a tribute to graphic design as well as prominent artists that included ceramicist Helen Jean Taylor and Sister Mary Corita Kent. The fourth season of TENDING NATURE (produced in partnership with the Autry Museum of the American West) was also recognized with a win for the series that shines a light on the environmental knowledge of Indigenous Peoples across California. In a first for the show, SOCAL WANDERER garnered a win this year. A KCET Original that explores the rich culture, history and landscape of Southern California with host Rosey Alvero, the most recent season examined Los Angeles neighborhoods guided by women business owners of color who are trailblazers in their community. Additional wins went to THE 62nd ANNUAL L.A. COUNTY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION (a co-production with The Music Center in association with CDK Productions) as well as acquired program LIVES, NOT GRADES, where a team of USC college students travels to Moria Camp in Greece to design and build innovations for refugees.
