The organization was honored in categories that included L.A. local color, culture/history and arts programming. Four of the categories – arts programming, crime/social issues programming, culture/history programming and music composition – were filled solely with nominees from Southern California’s flagship PBS channels PBS SoCal and KCET.
KCET took home six wins including two for its original environmental investigative series EARTH FOCUS (in partnership with the Thomson Reuters Foundation) as well as two for original arts and culture series ARTBOUND. Additional awards (with one win each) went to KCET’s food series THE MIGRANT KITCHEN (produced in partnership with acclaimed culinary publication Life & Thyme) and KCET’s historical series LOST LA (produced in conjunction with the USC Libraries) as well as PBS SoCal’s FINDING HOME: A FOSTER YOUTH STORY – a part of the PBS SoCal social impact initiative “To Foster Change.”
“We are honored that our original content – which shines a light on the diversity of our region - continues to be recognized each year,” said Andrew Russell, President and CEO of the Public Media Group of Southern California. “It’s a testament to the quality of these stories that illuminate new perspectives, which are at the core of our mission.”
“I am honored to work with such a talented team of individuals who continue to impress me with their incredible efforts,” said Juan Devis, Chief Creative Officer of the Public Media Group of Southern California. “None of these shows could have been made without the hard work, perseverance and belief that what we are doing matters, from all of our creative production staff and our talented partners. We are lucky to have them bear the burden and beauty of telling our stories.”
