Blue-ribbon panels of judges for the awards are constituted by recruiting first-rate, experienced broadcast news professionals from top markets, stations, networks, bureaus and universities across the country. They are flown to Los Angeles for the Judging Day, where they are assigned into three-person panels for radio and television. Each panel is assigned a Monitor who explains and applies the judging procedures, distributes scoring sheets, plays each entry on professional video and audio equipment and then collects the scoring sheets. The scoring sheets are then delivered to the Awards Accountant, who tabulates the scores, identifies the winners and confirms those categories that are noted by the judges as not meeting the "Golden Mike Standard of Excellence".
The Golden Mike Awards® are presented at a gala dinner in Hollywood each January in an industry event which is both congratulatory and celebratory. For over 65 years, the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California has promoted excellence in broadcast journalism through the Golden Mike Awards® and is committed to continuing that legacy into the future.
