Los Angeles, Calif. – July 29, 2024 PBS SoCal Southern California’s flagship PBS organization, announced today a total of 10 wins out of 12 nominated categories at the 76th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards presented on Sat. July 27 by the Television Academy and its Los Angeles Area Peer Group. The total tally marks the 8th consecutive year that the organization was honored more than any other LA-based broadcast organization – an unprecedented achievement in the awards’ 76-year history. After receiving 23 nominations earlier this summer, the organization’s Original arts and culture series ARTBOUND took home five of the trophies including key categories “LA Local Color” and “Education / Information.” All 33 categories were presented during a ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, hosted by award-winning journalist Michaela Pereira.

Past Emmy award-winning, locally produced original arts and culture series ARTBOUND received the most wins for PBS SoCal, including season 14 documentaries “Angel City Press: L.A. Through the Pages,” which looked at the impact of a revered regional publisher, and “L.A. Rebellion: A Cinematic Movement,” exploring the birth of affirmative action policies to increase the enrollment of students of color from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. The series was also honored in categories that included news/topical short promo, music composition for “América Tropical: The Martyr Mural of Siqueiros” and feature segment for “Little Amal.

Additional PBS SoCal awards went to documentaries that included the four-episode urban garden activist series 10 DAYS IN WATTS from actor and filmmaker Raphael Sbarge (Once Upon a Time, Murder in the First). Two specials from PBS SoCal were also honored, including the Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God, CODA) and Troy Kotsur (CODA) hosted 2023 MEDIA ACCESS AWARDS with Easterseals, recognizing artists and film/TV projects inclusive of disabled characters and actors, and BONNIE BOSWELL PRESENTS “Saving Moms,” investigating the country’s rapidly growing maternal mortality epidemic. Rounding out the trophy count in the “Independent Programming” category was the documentary EVERYBODY DANCE, following the lives of five Southern California kids with disabilities as they prepare for a ballet dance recital, as well as the WEEKLY ARTS digital series for “Celebrating Black Artists.
