David L. Ulin is assistant professor of the practice of English at the University of Southern California. He is the author of "Sidewalking: Coming to Terms with Los Angeles" and "The Myth of Solid Ground: Earthquakes, Prediction, and the Fault Line Between Reason and Faith" and editor of "Another City: Writing from Los Angeles" and "Writing Los Angeles: A Literary Anthology."
