NELA RC Community Engagement Toolkit
After a federal grant from the Partnership for Sustainable Communities and a collaboration between numerous community partners, from 2013 to 2014, the Northeast Los Angeles Riverfront Collaborative conductive an extensive analysis of the Northeast Los Angeles communities that surround the Los Angeles River: Atwater Village, Lincoln Heights, Glassell Park, Cypress Park and Elysian Valley.
Through community engagement workshops and even interns touring the neighborhoods to asses the landscape, the collaborative examined everything from placemaking and how individual community members interact with the river, to potential policies that could help enliven the areas. One of the results from these efforts was the Lessons Learned and Community Engagement Toolkit, which was intended to function as a toolkit for use in community planning and economic development projects.
