The film is based on journalist, author, and screenwriter Pablo Vierci’s 2016 interviews with the sixteen survivors of the tragic 1972 Uruguayan Andes flight disaster. His book “I Had to Survive,” had such a profound effect on filmmaker J.A. Bayona, that he traveled to the disaster site in the Andes to recreate the actual crash site for the film to pay homage to the victims.

Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET’s Must See Movies, moderated a Q&A with director J.A. Bayona, producer Belén Atienza, actor Enzo Vogrincic, composer Michael Giacchino, and actual survivor Roberto Canessa.
