'Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice' Screens at the Fall KCET Cinema Series on September 3
Q&A immediately following with directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, and producer/interviewer James Keach.
“Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice” is a musical biography of one of the most popular and versatile female singers of the 20th century, who at the height of unprecedented success turned away from pop music to explore an astonishing variety of musical styles. Withstanding constant pressure from a risk-averse industry, Linda Ronstadt followed her musical instincts until she could no longer sing. Now, the 10-time GRAMMY Award-winner shares her personal story through her own words and music, with contributions from fellow artists such as Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt and others.
While her voice was lost to Parkinson’s disease, themes of Ronstadt’s life as a pioneer in a male-dominated industry remain relevant today. “The rock and roll culture seems to be dominated by hostility against women,” Ronstadt says in the trailer, in an archival clip. “What happens is that they lose the ability to focus on themselves as a person, rather than as an image.”
The film screens at 7:00 p.m. at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET’s Must See Movies, will moderate a Q&A immediately following with directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, and producer/interviewer James Keach. “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice” will be released in theatres on September 6, 2019.
