It has come to this: sandwiches and donuts. I suppose it makes sense, that these two seemingly common American dishes would prove to be L.A.'s most beloved. We are, it might be argued, a people of straightforward tastes. And this Iconic Dish contest proves it. The French dip from Philippe's beat the chicken and waffles from Roscoe's. The fried chicken put up a good fight, but it was ultimately no match for a restaurant that's over 100 years old.
On the other side, the strawberry donut at The Donut Man bested the BBQ chicken pizza from CPK. Guess our anti-establishment streak is showing.
Philippe's and Donut Man will go head to head for three days, starting tomorrow. Come back then and vote!
