About
On Friday, May 12, PBS SoCal and KCET hosted a special screening celebrating an episode of the new PBS series Iconic America: "The Hollywood Sign." The event took place at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles where close to 100 guests enjoyed a panel discussion with the host of LAist’s "Retake" podcast John Horn and television host Melissa Rivers, sociologist Nancy Wang Yuen, Vintage Los Angeles creator Alison Martino and series producer Maro Chermayeff.
Prior to the screening, guests enjoyed a reception celebrating the evening with wine, cheese and desserts from Fundamental LA. As guests settled into their seats, PBS SoCal's Chief Creative Officer Tamara Gould gave a warm welcome to kick off the program and begin the screening.
PBS's new series "Iconic America: Our Symbols and Stories with David Rubenstein" will air on PBS stations across the country. In this new eight-part documentary series, David Rubenstein (co-founder of The Carlyle Group, patriotic philanthropist, lifelong student of history, and the series' host and executive producer) explores America's 400-year history through a close examination of iconic national symbols featuring landmarks that include Fenway Park, the Golden Gate Bridge, the American cowboy and the Statue of Liberty. Each episode tells the story of an iconic American symbol in order to better understand our shared past and present.
The series is a production of Show of Force, DMR Productions and WETA Washington, D.C. with local support from California CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for foster youth.
