Rancho Camulos
Widely believed to be the setting of the popular 1884 novel Romona by Helen Hunt Jackson, Rancho Camulos will forever be associated with the California lifestyle and the Rancho era in California History. After the novel's publication, throngs of Easterners visited Rancho Camulos to experience the romanticized West they believed was portrayed in Jackson's writing. Charles Lummis paid frequent visits to Rancho Camulos and became close friends with the ranch's founding family, the del Valleys.

Plan a day trip to explore Rancho Camulos and the abundant recreational activities of the Santa Clarita Valley. Head to the Rancho Camulos Museum that resides within an 1,800 acre working ranch featuring an historic fountain, chapel, bell structure, and winery. While on the grounds, don't forget to seek out the famous California Black Walnut Tree, "El Rey Nogal", the only survivor of four "Black Eagle" seedlings sowed by the del Valleys in the 1860s. After, head west onto Highway 126 to Bennet's Honey Farm to purchase some exceptional home-made honey and experience the wall of live bees. Before leaving the valley, be sure to stop by Cornejo's Produce Stand and stock up on fresh fruit and some delectable watermelon licorice.
NOTE: The museum is open during the months of February - November, on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm. Docents lead tours at 1, 2, and 3 pm. For more information, call 805-521-1501.
