Americans have gotten hooked on processed food, which today makes up some 60 percent of our diet. We love it because it's designed by food manufacturers to exploit our inborn cravings for salt, sugar and fat. But while processed food, made largely from crops kept artificially cheap by government policies, is a very profitable business, it's not very good for human health.
