Director Andrew Ahn first encountered Ang Lee’s 1993 film The Wedding Banquet at a video rental store with his parents. Compelled by the film’s Asian cast, but unaware of its themes. Ahn’s mother decided to rent the film for family viewing. “That was the first gay movie I’d ever seen, and it was a gay Asian movie.” Ahn recalls of the formative viewing experience, “It’s one of my favorite films. It’s such a beautiful mix of culture, sexuality, and family dynamics. That’s a really hard mix to find in a film.”

Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on PBS SoCal's Must See Movies, moderates a Q&A with producer Caroline Clark and casting director Jenny Jue.
