The Work of Women Filmmakers Lives on in 35mm Film Quilts
Sabrina Gschwandtner's "film quilts" credit women whose creative work has been overlooked and often left out of histories of art and film. Using surviving material from pioneering filmmaker Marion E. Wong's "The Curse of Quon Gwon," Gschwandtner cuts and stitches together 35mm film strips to create geometric quilt patterns and honor Wong's work.
Sabrina Gschwandtner's "Cinema Sanctuary Study #1" and "Screen Credit" are on view at the Skirball Cultural Center through March 12, 2023 as part of the "Fabric of a Nation" exhibit.
