Los Angeles-based artist Matt Johnson's piece for Desert X 2023 titled, "Sleeping Figure" situates a cubist rendition of a sleeping figure made with shipping containers between two of Southern California's main distribution arteries — a railway and the 10 Freeway. Using actual shipping containers and conceived around the time when the Suez Canal was blocked for six days by a container ship in March 2021, "Sleeping Figure" comments on a global supply chain in distress.

"Sleeping Figure" is on view daily from sunrise to sunset as part of the biennial, Desert X 2023, from March 4 - May 7, 2023 at the following location:
